An interview in the Toronto Quarterly, December 2, 2014

An open letter to all the wild creatures of the earth
On December 2, 2013, The Times Colonist
published Patrick Lane's open letter to the wild creatures of the earth. The letter is a transcript of the convocation address he gave to graduating students at the University of Victoria on November 13, 2013.

Since then, it has become the Times Colonist's most popular online story. (A follow-up article appeared on December 6.) Patrick’s letter has been shared on Facebook and reposted on many sites:

A previous convocation address, given to UBC students at the Kelowna campus, was published in the Globe and Mail. Patrick Lane was granted an honorary degree on June 6, 2013, and spoke of looking for the beauty in life. A video of him reading the address is on the home page.
